Position Summary -- Purpose
The Technical Shop programmer works with moving lights (intelligent lights) and dimming and control equipment used by the Rental Sales Department. He/she is responsible for proper and consistent use of the R2 rental system, bar code scanners and other internal systems so that he maintains the appropriate order-related paperwork; for doing hands-on tech work as required; and for helping to organize, maintain and operate the Technical Shop. The Tech Shop programmer is expected to maintain a thorough knowledge of technological changes affecting the industry, of the pricing and policies of equipment and parts suppliers, and is expected to make suggestions to improve timeliness or reduce costs; and to work in an organized, clean and efficient manner.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of ELS’ policies, products and services. The Tech Shop Assistant must be able to use all ELS internal systems (R2, Sage, MAS 500), and any outside software program essential to the operation of the department. The Tech Shop Assistant must understand and follow all company policies and procedures, and all government rules, laws, and regulations pertinent to the operation of the Technical department; must attend, and occasionally run, department/company/safety meetings; must ensure that he/or she works in a manner that protects the health and safety of ELS employees and customers, and must report all safety violations to the ELS Safety Officer
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
I. Prepare required equipment for pickup or delivery, according to orders and pull
sheets
A. Pulls equipment from stock
B. Examines equipment, preps equipment if necessary
C. Follows daily workload of prioritized pull sheets
D. Makes consistent use of the R2 rental system, bar code scanners and other internal systems
II. Repairs and maintains intelligent lights, dimming and control equipment
A. Diagnoses and repairs equipment not functioning properly
B. Applies professional troubleshooting techniques to equipment repair
C. Inspects and releases equipment for rental
III. Organizes, maintains and operates the Technical Shop
A. Stays informed of all equipment failures and malfunctions; and evaluates each incident to determine the feasibility of repair vs. new equipment acquisition and reports to Tech Shop Manager
B. Implements safety policies and procedures for the department
C. Reports safety violations to the ELS Safety Officer
D. Checks to ensure an adequate inventory of all repair parts
E. Orders parts and equipment as needed
F. Maintains a safe working area
G. Maintains accurate and timely work records
H. Organizes and maintains shop catalogs, manuals, and bulletins
I. Demonstrates safe operating procedures to customers
J. Assists customers with pick-up and delivery of rental equipment as needed
K. Anticipates and troubleshoots equipment, paperwork and personnel problems
IV. Maintains a thorough knowledge of technological changes affecting the
industry
A. Maintains regular personal contact with dealers and distributors
B. Stays abreast of annual events, attends or assigns attendees to appropriate conferences and conventions
C. Networks with other industry personnel
V. Performs other duties as required
A. Anticipates and troubleshoots equipment and paperwork problems
B. Works off site as necessary to assist customers and productions
